Pumpkin Patches and Scarecrows, Oh My!

Happy Monday everyone. What did you do this weekend?

We started our Fall festivities this weekend. Friday afternoon I took my little lady to watch the annual Homecoming Parade for our little town. A parade is always fun. Sorry I don't have any pictures to share. On Saturday, we went to our local pumpkin patch. I miss the "real" pumpkin patches from home where you can take a hay ride out to the pumpkin crops and pick your pumpkin right off of the patch. We have to improvise here in Florida since all of the pumpkins are shipped in. They are set up in a field at a local church. It's not quite the same as home, but it's a fun tradition that we have done for the last five years.
My favorite thing is the pumpkin that says "Gods Pumpkin Patch". Simply stated! Of course we took our little Daisy, as this is her first Fall, and wanted to add our new member to the tradition.












On Saturday night we went to a good friends home for a scarecrow building party. Tons of great fun with lots of great friends.





Our final product! Not bad.

Did you say pumpkins?

It seems to be all that I can think about. How to eat pumpkin and how to decorate with pumpkins! The pumpkin patches are opening, the air is cool and I am ready to carve.

My favorites are the white nail head pumpkins and the white pumpkin display against the dark wood. My favorite color is orange, but for some reason I am drawn to these white pumpkins.

Pumpkin Pancakes

for fall mornings.......

Make these spiced pancakes to use leftover canned pumpkin puree. But get it while you can, our grocery store had one can when I bought it.


1/14 c flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
a pinch of ground cloves
1 egg
6 tbsp pumpkin puree
2 tbsp melted butter
1 c milk


Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, salt, nutmeg and cloves together.
In separate bowl mix egg, pumpkin puree, melted butter and milk.
Fold in to dry ingredients.
Heat buttered skillet over medium heat; pour 1/4 c batter for each pancake.
Cook about 3 minutes per side.
Serve with butter and warm maple syrup.


They are delicious!

Thrift Finds

It was the perfect fall weekend for us Floridians. It was crisp and cool in the mornings and only reached the mid 80's. Pure Bliss. I had a great weekend, aside from the fact that I did not sleep well Friday night, between insomnia and a new puppy in the house, I got about four hours. That did not deter me, however, from a thrift shopping trip with some girlfriends. And I am so glad that I did, I had such great luck. Then on Sunday I made yummy pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. A great way to start off the great food for fall. A friend of mine had a great idea and made them for dinner!!!! Mmmmm! I'll share the recipe in my next post. I also got good news from my doctor on Friday, I am still of of caffeine, but since condition has improved, I decided to cheat (just a little) and made brownies. Yep, I would choose brownies over coffee! That's saying something for someone who has insomnia.

All in all I think it was a really successful trip. I found really cute stuff at really great prices in GREAT condition. I even found a pair of Lucky Brand jeans (aren't I lucky?) for only 96 cents. Yes, you read that correctly!!!! I was so excited with all of my buys that I came home immediately and washed them. I wore the Lucky Brand jeans yesterday which is why they aren't pictured. You just can't beat it. And I got to spend some fun with great friends which is priceless.

It's Friday!

It's Finally Friday. It's been a long week. What are your plans for the weekend? For me, I plan to enjoy the cooler weather, or a bit of less humidity. I plan to do some thrift shopping and spending good quality family time. I also have some thrift items that need to be refurbished that I hope to work on. I will post before and afters in later posts.

I have put together a post of my favorite look for thrift shopping. Now most of this would apply to living somewhere else, though it may be in the 60's in the morning when I head out the door. I might be able to get a way with a few items. If not now, this is a weekend look you could wear through out the fall season.
