Southern Flourish Magazine for flea market inspiration

Hi everyone. I hope you are having a great Wednesday. It's a bit dreary here with the latest tropical storm making it's way across Florida. We aren't supposed to get the brunt of the storm, but it created a dreary day here.

I usually go to our local flea/farmers market on Wednesdays. And even though today was a bit gloomy I thought I would head out to see if there were any treasures to be found. I was so disappointed. There were hardly any vendors. No great finds today. I did however buy some mums to decorate my front porch. I love the pretty colors and it makes the house look a bit festive. The mums did brighten my day but since I didn't find any fun home stuff I decided to look through one of my favorite on-line magazines, Southern Flourish, for some great inspirations. I found these picture that I really love and got my flea market "fix".

Things I'm loving about these images - the chippy blue paint door, the number pillow in the blue mid century modern chair and the great mirror in the last picture.

See how interesting your rooms can look by adding some unique items. These are the kind of items you find in second hand shops, yard sales and flea markets. Just remember that if you buy things that you love they will work in your home.

Have a great Wednesday.

Great Fall Etsy Finds

More great Etsy finds. I go to the site at least once a week to have a look. Have you ever been to the site? There are so many great crafters and artists there. You can find great unique one of a kind pieces which I love. They are so interesting and have so much more personality than what you can find at the big box stores.

I found these great fall inspired items. I love the pompoms, such pretty colors for fall.

Isn't this necklace so pretty. I love that rich brown stone.
JCGems Jewelry - Etsy

Cute tags for halloween favors.
Cat Tales - Etsy

I think the owls in the nest are my favorite. They are super cute and would look adorable as part of a table scape for the season. They are an investment piece however, but cute and hand made.

What about you, do you have your fall decorations out?

Have a great day.

Making Doughnuts

It's a rainy Saturday morning here and what better fun to brighten the day than with home made doughnuts. I pulled out the trusty Kitchenaid mixer, rounded up my assistant and we got busy. These doughnuts are so easy to make and great fun to do with the littles.

Recipe
3 1/4 cups all-puprose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmet
2 beaten eggs
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
shortening or cooking oil for frying

Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a large mixer bowl combine eggs; beat till thick. Combine milk and melted butter margarine. Add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately to egg mixture; beat just until blended after each addition.

On a lightly floured surface roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a floured 2 1/2 inch doughnut cutter. Fry in deep, hot fat (375 degrees) about 1 minute per side or till golden, turning once with a slotted spoon . Drain on paper towel. Cool. Put doughnuts in a plastic storage bag with either powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar and shake until coated. You could also make a simple icing out of powdered sugar and milk.

Simply Delicious.
Have a great day.

Fall s'mores Party and Images of Fall Decorations

A s'mores party. Doesn't that sound like a fabulous idea? Who doesn't love a s'more, they are one of my favorite things. It's a great idea for a themed fall party.

Check out these pictures from For The Love Of Blog Therapy, you can click on the title above to head to this blog and read more on the post. I found this post a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to write about it. So here you go, just in time for the season. If you are planning a party this fall think about this as an option. What fun. You could carve pumpkins and then have s'mores or just have s'mores. Either way you can't go wrong.

Fall Decorations

Here are a few images of decorations from my home.

Have you decorated for the season yet?

Have a great weekend.

Sweaters, Sweaters, Sweaters

It's almost sweater weather or in most cases it IS sweater weather. With yesterday being the first day of Fall it's time to plan for those crisp days to come. Here is a look at the sweater trends this season. Everything from boyfriend sweaters, cardi's with ruffles, sweater coats and crop sweaters are the in thing this season. There is a trend for everyone and a price too.

I personally can not wait to put on my first cozy sweater and a pair of boots. Hopefully, it will be just in time for visiting the pumpkin patches and for a marshmallow roast.

New puppy and a sun shower.

I just wanted to share some things that make me happy and that embody my idea of a simple life. A simple life to me means living in a way of times gone by. It means enjoying a popsicle, a raining day, baking cookies, a fresh mowed lawn, or watching my puppy run through the house.

I would like to introduce you to the new addition to my family. Her name is Daisy, she is a mini Golden Doodle and I am smitten.

There was an exhaustive search and a lot of deciding factors on what type of dog to buy. Did we want a big dog or little dog. We had to have a dog that was hypo-allergenic as my daughter has allergies. She's not allergic to dogs, but just to be extra cautious we wanted a non-shedding dog. We love Golden Retrievers, but oh the shedding, I can't handle the shedding. You could say I have a thing for a clean home. So after a long search and lots of debate we decided on our little mini Golden Doodle. What is a mini Golden Doodle you ask? It's a "designer bread". She is part Golden Retriever and part Poodle. The best of two worlds. The Golden Retriever has such a sweet and kind disposition. Great for kids. And the poodle is super smart. The best part is, the mini, she shouldn't get bigger than 25 to 30 lbs.

We are thrilled with our choice. Even at the cost of buying her from a breeder in Arkansas (we live in Florida) and having to pay to fly her home. It was all worth it. She's adorable. Don't ya think?

I must admit though that I have failed as her mother and trainer today. I have been so busy researching, posting and working on this blog that I haven't been paying attention and she has had a few accidents. Not the puppy's fault, I need to get off of my keester.

One more thing I wanted to share with you before I sign off, these are pictures of a sun shower we had this morning. I think it's a beautiful site. I was able to capture a few pictures to share with you.

This is shady lane style at it's finest.

Have a great day.

What I Wore Wednesday

This is week three of what I wore Wednesday that I am linking up with Lindsey of The Pleated Poppy. Be sure to check out her blog and Etsy store for cute hand made accessories. She started this idea to get women out of their frumpy sweat pants and to pay attention to what they were wearing. Click on the title above to head over to her blog to check out what other people are wearing.

I am a frugal/clearance shopper and most all of my clothes are bought on sale and a lot bought on clearance. I love shopping and I love clothes but I hate to spend a lot of money especially because things are often marked down shortly after you buy it. I love a great buy!

I Sew Lucky

It was a hectic weekend in my house this past weekend. We got a new puppy! A mini Golden Doodle puppy to be exact and she is ADORABLE!!! Needless to say it was very busy with this new addition. Don't worry I will be posting pictures of my new little one soon. While I was busy with this new little creature I did have a few minutes to do a little internet surfing and came across this great shop on Etsy that I wanted to share with you. I love great hand made goodies.
