It's time to trim your tree

I am back from our Thanksgiving holiday and so happy to be home. I had a great visit, but as much as I was looking forward to cold weather, I am over it and so glad I live in Florida. I had been anticipating cold weather so that I would have more wardrobe choices each day. I will no longer complain. I love being able to wear flip flops all year if I choose to. It is supposed to get cooler here in the next day or so, but highs in the 60's is a far cry from what I experienced in Kentucky. Sixty degree's is just the right temp for boots! Yippee!!!

When we get back in town each year from our Thanksgiving travels we always do a count in our neighborhood to see how far behind we are in getting our decorations up. I spent the entire day yesterday getting our decorations out and will be putting our tree up this weekend. We are getting a real tree for the first time. So much fun, we are going to the Christmas tree farm to pick out and cut it down. We always go but this will be the first time we will come home with a tree. Maybe a new tradition.

I wanted to share these pictures of ideas for trimming your tree if you are delayed like I am.

Have a great day!

Some of my favorite things

Okay, so this is the week to start your shopping. I thought I would help get you started by giving you some ideas. These are a few of the things that I like, they are small, simple gifts that are great for stocking stuffers, teachers gifts, hostess gifts or great to get for your self for the season.

CrateandBarrel.com Owl ornament $7.99

Landsend.com Chunky cable knit stocking $24

Westelm.com Alphabet letter mug $4

Westelm.com Ceramic owls $9-$16

Anthropologie Rosebud strawberry lip balm $8
Anthropologie Royal apothic roll-on fragrance $16

Anthropologie Illume votive $10

Etsy Artofsilver charm necklace $46

Sweet gifts for the Kiddies

Westelm
New York Stamp set $9-$16
Puppets hand crafted from recycled sweaters $40

blablakids.com
owl backpack $42
crochet animals - suzette the cat $46

And last but not least, this is one of my favorite gifts to give. This is a great DIY project.

These are paperwhites. A pretty holiday flower that you grow yourself. Just go to your local garden shop or home improvement store that has a garden. You plant the bulbs in anything and they are so easy to grow with a little bit of watering. I grow them in terra cotta pots and tie with rafia with a little tag and give as gifts.

I hope that at least one of these items will help you with your Christmas/Holiday shopping this year.
Have a great day.

Fun weekend at our local art fair

It's Monday and, yay, it's Thanksgiving week. Do you wonder to yourself "How is it already Thanksgiving"? I do. It's hard to believe it's in just a few days. We will be jetting off to my home state, Kentucky, for some family time, great food and a little R&R. Hopefully, we will be able to fit in a little date night for the hubby and I.

Until then, I'd like to share some of my weekend highlights. We went to a local art fair and enjoyed being out in the beautiful Florida weather. I live in a little town, just to the North of Orlando. We moved here five years ago due to a company relocation and at the time if I had thought I would still be here, five years later, and enjoying living here, I would have thought I was crazy. But, that is what has happened. We have so many great things about our little town. One of them is the annual DeLand Festival of the Arts art fair. There are artists that come from all over the states to participate and there is some fantastic art. I have included pictures of some of my favorites.

Beautiful pottery. I especially loved the white pieces. Very textural and graphic.

I love black and white photography and especially pictures of the low country and coast. These were really pretty.

This was the greatest display. I'm not sure how well it comes out in the picture, but it's a giant crate, made out of wood with a ramp for the entrance. The art displayed inside were pictures of animals. The pictures were fun, colorful and really quirky. The whole display one best entry for me. It was the highlight of the day.

This was my favorite picture displayed in the "crate". I wish I could have taken it home, it was a bit steep for me at a mere 495.00. Beautiful though.

Love this colorful piece.

A tid bit about my little town. This restaurant, Cress, was voted by the Orlando Sentinel as a runner up in a miscellaneous category. It's a small, elegant restaurant with black table cloths, brick walls, elegant stemware and serve ware, and en eclectic menu. For those of you that live in Central Florida, or if you are here visiting and want to get away from the craziness of Orlando, It's a great reason to drive out and check out DeLand, our downtown and this great restaurant. Check out their website at cressrestaurant.com. It's really a winner.

Have a great night! See ya tomorrow for a great gift idea. I know, it's not even Thanksgiving, but you've got to be prepared. Right?

Marry Me......

My new favorite song. As I am loving and celebrating my 10th year of wedded bliss, I heard this song today and had to add it to my playlist here. If I were getting married today this would be my song, maybe my second song as I love my song "True Companion" by Marc Cohen. Anyhow, this is such a lovely song I had to add it today and post about it. This song is by Train, who I have always loved and had the pleasure of seeing in concert, before they were anything, almost 8 years ago in south Florida.

It's just a beautiful song.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

So glad it's Friday!

I don't have a lot inspiring me today. It's been a busy week and a busy day. I'm just happy it's Friday. We have little planned, going to our little towns renowned art fair, I look forward to it all year, then going to visit friends and their new baby girl.

I do have some pretty pictures for you to look at. I could move in to any one of these homes.

These images are from Home Made Simple.com.
I love the graphic wall and blues in the first picture, the rustic edge and the wellies lined up in the second picture, and everything about the third picture. This picture embodies my style. The great black and white photos, the iron light fixture and that table. LOVE IT!

I can always look at pictures of home decor. It puts me in a good mood.
Off to meet my hubby for dinner.

Have a great weekend.

Just a reminder, Lindsay at the Pleated Poppy started this idea as a way to get mom's out of their sweats and into something stylish. Guest bedroom inspiration

Happy Monday. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Here in Florida, you couldn't beat the weather. Beautiful. We spent lots of time outside.

On another note, I am redecorating my guest bedroom. Aside from the bed and armoire everything else is going. All the items were sold in the yard sale and now I am on the hunt for new items to redo this room. I want it to be calm, serene and sophisticated. I am starting with these items below for my inspiration. I love mixing dark wood with white. We aren't changing out the bed, right now there is an iron bed that was custom made, but in this picture I loved the horizontal white board detail behind the day bed. I would love to create that affect with stripes in different shades of white/beige painted on the wall. I also like to mix weathered and rustic pieces in to a clean/modern decor. I don't really have room for a rug, but love the graphic look of the numbers rug and would love to incorporate this look. I'm off to start shopping and looking for this "look" on a budget, TJMaxx, HomeGoods, Ikea, Etc.....Here I come!

What do you think?

Have a great Monday.

Wow, It's FRIDAY! Woohoo!

It has been a busy week. I have been on the go and it has been non-stop all week. I have had some early mornings and sleepless nights. I am not supposed to have caffeine of ANY kind, but I had to drive about 40 minutes to a doctors appointment and found my self getting drowsy. I decided the affects of one cup of caffeinated coffee (or latte) would be less than if I fell asleep at the wheel. So I drove to Starbucks to treat myself. What a treat it was too. I ordered a Tall Non-fat Peppermint Mocha! YUM!!!!!

Ok, so this post isn't about my coffee need, it's about this piece of art that is displayed at this Starbucks. In light of Veterans Day yesterday I thought it was very fitting. Its made up of scrap fabric to create stripes and old photographs used to create the other set of stripes and stars! I think it's wonderful and what a fun way to display pictures.

Have a great weekend. Today I am chaperoning my daughters kindergarten class to the county fair to see the animals. Looking forward to a fun day with 18 five and six year olds. ( I think I need a cup of coffee! HA)
